What is the Active Living Committee?

The Breckenridge Active Living Committee collaboratively works to promote and improve the health of residents by supporting regular activity through environmental changes such as “Complete Streets”, sidewalks, and bicycle trails. Safety and respect of all users of the transportation networks in the community is promoted through education.

Vision: Moving you in the right direction

Core Values: Health, Safety, Respect, Community & Education

Current Project:

Outdoor Fitness Equipment

Photo 6.jpg
Photo 2.jpg

The Breckenridge Active Living Committee has discussed a few different ideas/projects to bring into the community next. The consensus is to add Outdoor Fitness Equipment. This is an idea that the committee has discussed several times over the years. This would be an outdoor gym that would be added to Oxcart Trail Park, located at 312 Wilkin Avenue, Breckenridge. There are other amenities such as a basketball hoops, volleyball, shelter and restrooms. This location is also in an area nestled in with a wide range of community members from young, vibrant families to the upper aged generation that like to take walks and would benefit from using this equipment.

The equipment that would be added could be a variety of options including (but not limited too) sit-up bench, arm dip/knee lift station, chest press, balance, pull-up stations, push-ups, step up/calf raise, bicycle, etc.

This equipment is designed be used for all muscle groups, for everyone no matter their fitness level, or where they are in their fitness journey.

Wayfinding Signs ~ 2022

Wayfinding Signs.jpg

The wayfinding signs are helpful for people of all ages and are located in the highest traffic areas in Breckenridge. The signs will help inform visitors who might be coming here for baseball games, golfing, etc. and will also help remind our local residents that there are outdoor activities available for exercise and socialization.

The purposes of signage is to promote, identify, provide information, give directions or to raise safety awareness. Adding this signage to show residents and visitors what Breckenridge has to offer will not only promote and give direction to a few of the amenities located in Breckenridge, but will raise awareness for safety to possible extra pedestrian traffic.

Highway 75 Walk/Bike Path ~ 2018-2020

The Breckenridge Active Living Committee has received grants to get a walk/bike path along highway 75 to the CHI St Francis. This project was chosen from a public forum meeting held in 2011. This path is a 10-foot wide paved surface. This trail is just the beginning and the largest piece of a connecting network throughout the communities we are trying to implement.

  • Trails provide opportunities for increased physically activity.  Research shows exercise and being outside can improve mood and overall health. Building a better community!

  • Trails promote economically vital communities, and alternative modes of transportation. Allowing all ages to travel safely.

  • Trails have been considered one of the most important amenities for potential homeowners when moving into a community.

  • Trails provide a valuable amenity that can increase housing values.

  • Trails revitalize neighborhoods.

  • Trails can build or add more to local businesses with pedestrian traffic and visitor interest.
